Operating-environment issues, although important in any power converter design, assume critical importance when the power converter is intended for use in a moving vehicle. Key design issues include shock and vibration tolerance, thermal design, corrosion resistance, susceptibility to damage from contaminants, etc.

A few examples are described below. Wilmore manufactures both custom and standard dc-dc converters for mobile applications, and these products have earned well-deserved reputations as economical, reliable solutions to power conversion needs on trains, buses, bulldozers - virtually any vehicle on tracks, treads or tires. If your particular application is not represented here, please contact us using the form provided on this Web site or by telephone, fax, mail or e-mail at the location shown on this page.

VHF/UHF transceivers on fork lifts and other warehouse vehicles are an important part of today’s tight inventory control and shipping/receiving data collection systems. An extremely wide input voltage range and substantial input filtering allows this converter to power 12-volt radios on 24, 36 and 48-volt vehicles - any lift truck in the fleet.

Equipped with heavy-duty 24-Vdc electrical systems, Off Highway Vehicles (OHV’s) used in large construction, earth-moving and mining operations often need dc-dc converters to power ancillary 12-volt electrical equipment. These converters provide a tightly regulated 13.6-Vdc output at up to 400 watts at greater than 90% efficiency, all in a compact and extremely rugged mechanical package.

Converters designed for use on locomotives or for other mobile rail transit applications require unique capabilities, such as the ability to withstand electrical transients which might have peak amplitudes measured in kilovolts and other especially severe environmental requirements.
